What Are Schools?
Schools on Loclie are dedicated educational entities with their own section, separate from Clubs. They include:
- Primary schools - Local primary and elementary schools
- Secondary schools - High schools and secondary colleges
- Colleges - TAFE, community colleges, and further education
- Kindergartens - Early learning centres and preschools
- Special schools - Specialist educational institutions
Schools vs Clubs
Schools were previously registered under the Clubs entity. They now have their own dedicated section with features designed specifically for educational communities. If you're looking for RSLs, bowling clubs, or sporting clubs, see Discovering Clubs instead.
Key Features
Public Events
Schools can create events that are visible to the entire community. These are perfect for:
- School fairs and open days
- Music nights and concerts
- Drama productions and performances
- Sports carnivals and athletics days
- Fundraising events
Members-Only Campaigns
Campaigns created by schools are visible only to approved members. Use them for:
- Sporting fixtures and schedules
- After-school program announcements
- Limited-capacity activity sign-ups
- Internal community updates
School Groups
Create groups within your school for targeted communication:
- Sport teams (football, netball, cricket)
- Student clubs (chess club, drama club, environment club)
- Class groups (Year 6 2026, Mrs Smith's Class)
- Parent committees and P&C groups
Announcement Box
Post real-time updates directly on your school's detail page:
- Visible to all visitors (public)
- Quick updates without creating a full campaign
- Ideal for weather cancellations, schedule changes, or reminders
Membership System
Roles
Schools have a structured role hierarchy for managing access and permissions:
| Role | Description | Permissions |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | The person who registered the school | Full access — manage all settings, members, campaigns, events, and groups |
| Administrator | School leadership (e.g., principal, deputy) | Manage members, campaigns, events, and groups |
| School Staff | Teachers and support staff | Create campaigns, manage groups they moderate |
| Parent | Parents and guardians | View members-only campaigns, join groups |
| Student | Students at the school | View members-only campaigns, join groups |
Group Moderator
Group Moderator is an additive power that can be assigned to any role. A Parent who is also a Group Moderator can manage posts and members within the groups they moderate.
Joining a School
Parents and students join schools via invite codes:
- The school generates an invite code from the Manage portal
- The code creates a shareable link:
app.loclie.com.au/join/ABC123 - Share via email, newsletter, school app, or printed flyer
- Recipients open the link and join with one tap
Visibility Model
Schools have a layered visibility model that balances community engagement with member privacy:
| Content | Who Can See It |
|---|---|
| School detail page | Everyone (public) |
| Events | Everyone (public) |
| Announcements | Everyone (public) |
| Campaigns | Members and followers only |
| Group names | School members only |
| Group content (posts, comments) | Group members only |
Non-members visiting a school page will see the school's details, upcoming events, and announcements. They will not see campaigns or group content.
Content Safety
All posts and comments within school groups run through a 3-layer safety pipeline before they are published. This provides enhanced protection for school communities where minors are present.
- Layer 1: Keyword filter for explicit content
- Layer 2: AI moderation for hate, sexual, violence, and harassment content
- Layer 3: Enhanced school protection via Llama Guard 3
