Discover local events, festivals, markets, and community happenings in your area.

What are Events?

Events on Loclie include all local happenings, activities, and gatherings:

Event types:

Live music and concerts
Arts and cultural events
Food and wine festivals
Markets and fairs
Sports and fitness events
Family activities
Workshops and classes
Theater and performances
Beach and outdoor events
Community celebrations

How to Access Events

Method 1: Events Tab

Desktop:

Click Discover in the bottom arc navigation, then click Events in the submenu
Opens events list page
See all upcoming events

Mobile:

Tap Discover in the bottom navigation, then tap Events in the submenu
Opens events page for your selected town

Method 2: Homepage

Events section:

Scroll to "Upcoming Events" section
See featured events for your town
Click "View All Events"
Opens events page

Method 3: Search/Ask Bar

Search for events:

Type "events" in search
Or "What's on this weekend?"

Ask Bar:

"What events are happening today?"
"Live music this weekend"
"Family activities in Byron Bay"

Events Page

Time-Based Sections

Events are organised into three time-based sections so you can quickly see what is most relevant:

On Now - Events currently happening
This Week - Events starting within the next 7 days
Coming Up - All future events beyond this week (with infinite scroll to load more)

The page also includes business campaigns (promotions from local businesses) integrated alongside community events.

Page features:

Search bar to find specific events by name, description, venue, or business name
Scrollable category filter (horizontal pills, tap to select)
Sort dropdown: Date (Earliest), Date (Latest), Alphabetical
Total event count shown
Area-wide toggle and hometown toggle (when applicable)

Event HeroCards

Each event is displayed as a HeroCard showing:

Event image (if available)
Event name
Date and time
Venue/location
Category badge
Town pill badge (when viewing area-wide, for events from other towns)
Business name (for campaign-type events)

Filtering Events

Search

Use the search bar at the top of the events page:

Type event name, description, venue, or business name
Results filter as you type
Shows matching events only

By Category

Use the scrollable category filter (horizontal row of pills):

All - Show all events (tap to clear selection)
Tap one or more category pills to filter (e.g., Music, Markets, Sports)
Categories are dynamically loaded from the database

By Sort Order

Use the Sort dropdown to change the order:

Date (Earliest) - Soonest events first (default)
Date (Latest) - Latest events first
Alphabetical - Sorted by event name A-Z

By Town

Events are filtered by your currently selected town. To see events in a different town:

Change your town selection in the header
The events list updates automatically

If you are away from your home town, a hometown toggle button appears. Tap it to switch between viewing events at your current location or your home town.

Area-Wide Viewing

See events from your entire Local Government Area:

If your town belongs to a Local Government Area, you can toggle between:

Town View - See events from your selected town only (shows town name with MapPin icon)
Local View - See events from all towns in your Local Government Area (shows "Local" with Globe icon)

How to toggle:

Look for the pill-style toggle in the top-right of the Events page header
Tap the town name button or the Local button to switch views
Events from other towns show a town name badge so you know where they are

Never miss out on local happenings

Event Detail Pages

Event Information

Top section:

Back to Events link
Event image (responsive, cropped)
Event name (large heading)
Category badge and town badge
Full event description
Subscribe button (get notified about updates to this event)
Attend button (mark your attendance)

Key details (in separate cards):

Date (with Calendar icon) - full date, multi-day range if applicable
Time (with Clock icon) - start and end times
Venue name and address (with MapPin icon)
Contact phone, email, and website (when available)

Announcements

If the event organiser has posted updates, you will see:

An Announcement box with a megaphone icon for the main announcement
An Announcements section showing all event updates, each tagged by type:
- Update
- Schedule Change
- Venue Change
- Cancellation
- Important
Each announcement shows when it was posted (e.g., "2 hours ago")

Tickets & Booking

If the event has a booking URL:

A "Book Tickets" button appears in the action row
Opens the external ticketing site in a new tab

Action buttons at the bottom of the detail page:

Call - Tap to call the event contact (if phone number provided)
Book Tickets - Opens external booking link (if provided)
Add to Calendar - Opens a dropdown to add to your calendar

Adding to Calendar

Add Event

Click the "Add to Calendar" button:

A dropdown menu appears with calendar options:
- Apple Calendar
- Google Calendar
- iCal (download .ics file)
- Outlook.com

What gets added:

Event name
Date and time
Location/address
Description

Event Search Tips

On the Events Page

The events page search bar filters by event name, description, venue, and business name:

"jazz concert" - Matches events with "jazz concert" in name or description
"farmers market" - Matches market events
"beach hotel" - Matches events at that venue

Using the Ask Bar (Home Page)

For more natural queries, use the Ask Bar on the home page:

"What's on this weekend?"
"Family activities today"
"Live music tonight"
"Events in Ballina"

Discovering New Events

Browse by category:

Events page
Select category (e.g., "Food & Drink")
See all food/drink events
Sort by date

Sort by name:

Use the Sort dropdown to switch to "Alphabetical" for an easy A-Z browse

Planning Ahead

Browse upcoming events:

The "Coming Up" section shows all future events
Scroll through the list (more load automatically via infinite scroll)
Tap events to see full details
Add interesting events to your calendar using the "Add to Calendar" button

Mobile Experience

Mobile-Specific Features

Quick access:

Tap Discover → Events in the bottom navigation submenu
Access from anywhere in the app
Same filters as desktop

Scrolling:

Scroll through event sections (On Now, This Week, Coming Up)
More events load automatically in the Coming Up section
Smooth scrolling interface

Town-aware:

Shows events in your selected town
Toggle between home town and current location (when traveling)
