Parks, walking trails, lookouts, beaches, playgrounds, and gardens are now listed as attractions. See Exploring Attractions.
What Are Amenities?
Amenities are public infrastructure and essential facilities in a town — things you need rather than places you visit for leisure. Loclie tracks 16 amenity categories:
- Toilets — Public toilets and restrooms
- Caravan Parks — Caravan parks and camping grounds
- Medical — Hospitals, doctors, clinics, pharmacies
- Emergency — Fire stations, police stations, SES
- Education — Schools, libraries, kindergartens, universities
- Public facilities — Community centres, town halls, council offices
- Post offices — Post offices, mail services
- Religious — Churches, mosques, temples
- Transport — Bus stations, train stations, taxi ranks
- Shopping — Supermarkets, markets
- Food & Drink — Restaurants, cafes (public/community)
- Financial — Banks, ATMs
- Childcare — Childcare centres, kindergartens
- Parking — Car parks, parking areas
- Automotive — Petrol stations, EV charging, mechanics
- Waste & Recycling — Waste management, recycling centres
Accessing Amenities
Method 1: From the Bottom Navigation
- Tap Explore in the bottom navigation bar
- Select Amenities from the menu
- Browse amenities for your currently selected town
Method 2: From the Town Page
- Navigate to the Town page for your selected town
- Click the Amenities card in the stats grid
- Opens the full amenities list for that town
Method 3: Direct URL
Navigate directly to /amenities to view amenities for your currently selected town.
Method 4: On the Map
- Go to the Map tab in the bottom navigation
- Amenities appear as colour-coded markers on the map alongside businesses
- Each amenity type has its own icon and colour (e.g., red for medical, cyan for toilets, purple for education)
- Markers cluster together at lower zoom levels and expand as you zoom in
- Click any marker to see details
Method 5: Via the Ask Bar
Use natural language to find amenities:
- "Where is the nearest hospital?"
- "Where are the nearest public toilets?"
- "Is there parking in [town name]?"
- "Caravan parks near [town]"
Browsing Amenities
Amenities List Page
When you access the amenities page, you will see:
- Back to town link at the top
- Search bar — Filter amenities by name, type, or category
- Scrollable category filter — Horizontal row of colour-coded pills for all 16 categories
- Sort dropdown — Sort by Alphabetical or By Category
- Area-wide toggle — Switch between town and Local Regional Area view
- Results count — Total amenities found
- Amenity cards — Scrollable list of amenities
Amenity Cards
Each amenity card displays:
- Icon — Visual indicator based on amenity type
- Name — Amenity name or type (if unnamed, shows the type name)
- Category badge — Colour-coded by type
- Description — Additional details (if available)
- Address — Physical location
- Phone — Contact number (if available)
- Town name — Shown when viewing area-wide and the amenity is from a different town
Category Colour Coding
Amenities are colour-coded by their 16 categories:
- Cyan — Toilets
- Emerald/Green — Caravan Parks
- Red — Medical
- Dark Red — Emergency
- Purple — Education
- Slate/Grey — Public facilities
- Sky Blue — Post offices
- Amber — Religious
- Cyan — Transport
- Pink — Shopping
- Orange — Food & Drink
- Emerald — Financial
- Pink — Childcare
- Indigo — Parking
- Yellow — Automotive
- Teal — Waste & Recycling

Using the Map
Map View
- Navigate to the Map tab
- See all amenities plotted alongside businesses
- Each amenity type has a distinct icon
- Amenities and businesses share the map view
Finding Amenities Near You
- Enable location services
- The map centers on your location
- Nearby amenities are visible
- Click markers for quick info
Saving Favorite Amenities
Save to Favorites
- Find an amenity you want to remember
- Click the heart icon on the amenity card
- Amenity saved to your favorites
- Access anytime from your profile

Frequently Asked Questions
Are all amenities free?
Most public amenities are free to use. Some may have fees (e.g., paid parking, caravan parks). Check the listing for details.
How accurate is the information?
We strive to keep information current, but conditions can change. Verify important details before visiting.
Can I suggest a missing amenity?
Yes! Use the Help button in the app to suggest amenities that should be added.
Can I save amenities to favorites?
Yes! Click the heart icon on any amenity card to save it to your favorites.
What happened to parks and playgrounds?
Parks, playgrounds, and gardens have been moved to Attractions. You can find them under Exploring Attractions. Caravan parks remain under amenities.
