Why Update Your Profile?
A complete profile helps you:
- Personalize your account
- Get better local recommendations
- Improve search results for your area
- Connect with your community
Your profile, your way!
What You Can Customize
Profile information you can update:
- Full name
- Home town
Profile information you can view (but not change from the profile page):
- Email address (managed through your Clerk account)
- Member since date
Accessing Profile Settings
Desktop
Method 1: Header Dropdown
- Click the Account dropdown (top right, shows your name)
- Select "Profile Settings"
- Your profile page opens at
/dashboard/profile
Method 2: Via Dashboard
- Click your name in the header to go to the Dashboard
- Under Quick Actions, click "Edit Profile"
- Your profile page opens
Mobile
- Tap your name badge in the top-right of the header
- This takes you to the Dashboard
- Under Quick Actions, tap "Edit Profile"
- Your profile page opens
Updating Profile Information
Full Name
What is full name?
- The name displayed on your profile
- Can be your real name or preferred name
- Updated via your Clerk account (split into first name and last name)
How to change:
- On the Profile page, click "Edit Profile" button
- The Full Name field becomes editable
- Type your new name
- Click "Save Changes"
- A green "Profile updated successfully!" confirmation appears
Home Town
Why set a home town?
- Tailored local recommendations
- Better search results for your area
- Default location for browsing local content
- Community connection
How to set:
- On the Profile page, look for the "Home Town" field
- If no home town is set and your current location is detected, you will see a "Set as Home" button
- Click "Set as Home" to save your current town as your home town
- Your home town is saved and used for local content recommendations
What changes:
- Homepage shows local businesses, events, attractions, and amenities for your home town
- "Near Me" uses your home town when location is off
- You can still browse all areas and switch between your home town and current location
Email Address
Your email address is displayed on your profile page but cannot be changed from this page. This is the email you used when creating your Clerk account.
Your email is used for:
- Signing in to your account
- Account recovery and notifications
- Important updates from Loclie
Saving Changes
Edit mode:
- Click "Edit Profile" to enter edit mode
- Make your changes to the Full Name field
- Click "Save Changes" to apply
- Click "Cancel" to discard changes
Confirmation:
- A green success message appears: "Profile updated successfully!"
- The message disappears after a few seconds
Additional Profile Sections
Your profile page also shows:
- Business & Event Management - Links to the Manage portal where you can claim businesses, create events, and manage your listings. Includes an "Open Management Portal" button.
- Clubs I've Joined - All clubs you are a member of (including ones you own), with unread post counts
- Subscribed Events - Events you are following for updates
- Support Messages - Messages from the support team
- Privacy & Cookies - Cookie consent preferences with toggle controls
Best Practices
DO:
Choose a recognizable name
- Real name or recognizable nickname
- Helps community members recognize you
Set your home town
- Better recommendations
- Local search results
- Community connection
Keep your account secure
- Use a strong password
- Review your cookie preferences
DON'T:
Don't share personal info in your name
- Avoid including phone numbers
- Avoid including email addresses
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change my email address?
Your email address is managed through Clerk, the authentication service Loclie uses. The profile page in Loclie does not support changing your email directly.
Can I hide my real name?
Yes! Use any name you are comfortable with for your full name.
Options:
- Nickname or preferred name
- First name only
- Any name you are comfortable with
Troubleshooting
Changes Not Saving
Check:
- Clicked "Save Changes" button (not just "Edit Profile")
- Internet connection is active
- No error messages displayed
Try:
- Refresh the page after saving
- Check for red error messages
- Sign out and back in
- Clear browser cache
