Getting Started

Create an Account

Creating a Loclie account is quick and free. You'll be able to save favorite places, create events, and manage your business.

Why Create an Account?

With a Loclie account, you can:

  • ✅ Save favorite places - Build your list of go-to businesses
  • ✅ Create events - Promote your community events
  • ✅ Claim your business - Manage your business listing
  • ✅ Track analytics - View business performance metrics on the Manage portal

No account needed to:

  • Browse businesses and events
  • Use the Ask Bar AI search
  • View business details and hours

Sign Up

Step 1: Go to Sign Up Page

  1. Visit app.loclie.com.au
  2. Click "Sign In" from the homepage (on mobile, you'll see a sign-in prompt card on the homepage body for unauthenticated users)

Step 2: Enter Your Information

Loclie uses a secure sign-up form powered by Clerk. Fill out the required fields:

  • Email address
  • Password

Clerk handles password strength validation and will guide you through any requirements.

Step 3: Verify Your Email

After submitting, you'll need to verify your email:

  1. Check your inbox for a verification email (check spam folder if needed)
  2. Enter the verification code or click the verification link
  3. Once verified, you'll be redirected to the homepage

Done! Your account is now fully activated.

Secure Authentication

Loclie uses Clerk for authentication, which provides secure session management across all browsers including Safari. Social login providers (Google, etc.) may be available depending on configuration in the Clerk dashboard.

After Creating Your Account

Complete Your Profile (Optional)

Make your account more personal:

  1. On desktop, hover over the Account dropdown (top right) and click "Profile Settings". On mobile, tap your name in the header to go to the Dashboard, then navigate to Profile.
  2. Update:
    • Full Name (your display name)
    • Home Town (helps personalize your feed)

Select Your Town

Help us personalize your experience:

  1. Tap the town selector button in the header (shows a map pin icon with the current town name, or "Select Town")
  2. A modal will appear where you can search through towns and select yours
  3. Or allow location access when prompted to auto-detect your nearest town

Your selected town is used to:

  • Show relevant businesses and events first
  • Focus search results on your area
  • Provide accurate distances to nearby places

Troubleshooting

"Email already in use"

Problem: You already have an account with this email

Solutions:

  1. Try logging in instead
  2. Use password reset if you forgot your password

"Email not verified"

Problem: You haven't completed email verification yet

Solutions:

  1. Check your inbox for the verification code email (including spam folder)
  2. Enter the verification code on the sign-up page
  3. Wait a few minutes for the email to arrive
  4. Contact support if you still don't receive it

"Weak password"

Problem: Your password doesn't meet security requirements

Solutions:

  • Clerk enforces password strength requirements during sign-up
  • Follow the on-screen guidance to create a stronger password
  • Consider using a password manager

Privacy and Security

What Information Do We Collect?

We collect:

  • Name and email (to create your account)
  • Your saved places
  • Your location (if you allow it)

We do NOT collect:

  • Your passwords (securely managed by Clerk authentication)
  • Your financial information
  • Your browsing history outside Loclie

How We Protect Your Data

  • Encrypted passwords - We never see your password
  • HTTPS everywhere - All data encrypted in transit
  • No selling of data - We never sell your information
  • You control your data - Export or delete anytime

Account Types

One Account for Everything (Free)

All Loclie accounts are the same -- there is no separate "business account". Every user can:

  • Save unlimited favorite places (businesses, events, attractions, and more)
  • Join clubs and groups, and follow events
  • Apply for jobs
  • Full access to all consumer features

Business owners can claim and manage their business through the Manage portal. Once you claim a business there, you get access to update business information, view analytics, run campaigns, and more -- all from the same Loclie account.

Is Loclie free to use?

Yes! Loclie is completely free for both users and businesses.

Can I have multiple accounts?

We recommend one account per person. You can claim multiple businesses with a single account.

Can I delete my account later?

Yes, you can delete your account anytime from Account Settings.

Do I need an account to browse?

No! You can browse businesses and events without an account. An account is only needed for saving favorites, creating events, and managing your business.

Can I change my email address?

Yes, in Profile Settings.
