Loclie is committed to protecting your privacy while helping you discover local communities.

Key principles:

  • We collect only what is needed to provide the service
  • We do not sell your data
  • We do not share personal info with advertisers
  • We do not track you outside Loclie

What You Can Control

Settings Page

The Settings page (/dashboard/settings) provides:

Notification Preferences:

  • Email Notifications - Toggle on/off
  • Push Notifications - Toggle on/off
  • Event Updates - Get notified about new events
  • Business Updates - Get notified about new businesses

Campaign Notification Preferences:

  • Manage how you receive notifications about business campaigns

Coming Soon

Notification preference toggles are visible on the Settings page but are not yet functional. Changes to these settings are not currently persisted and will reset when the page reloads. Full notification support is planned for a future update.

Profile Page

The Profile page (/dashboard/profile) provides:

Privacy & Cookies section:

  • View your current cookie consent status (Essential, Analytics, Marketing categories)
  • Manage Cookie Preferences button to update your choices
  • See when you last updated your cookie preferences

Other profile controls:

  • Edit your full name
  • View and manage your home town
  • View your businesses, clubs, and events

What Loclie Collects

Account Information

When you create an account (via Clerk):

  • Email address (for login and account recovery)
  • Name (your choice - can be a pseudonym)
  • Home town preference (for local recommendations)

Usage Data

To improve the service:

  • Pages viewed (anonymous analytics via PostHog)
  • Search queries (to improve search results)
  • Feature usage (to understand what is helpful)

Saved Data

When you use features:

  • Saved places and favorites (private to you)
  • Business claims (if you are a business owner)
  • Event listings (if you create events)
  • Job applications (if you apply for jobs)
  • Club memberships and posts

How Your Data Is Used

To Provide the Service

  • Display local events, businesses, and places
  • Remember your home town preference
  • Save your favorite places
  • Allow you to sign in

To Improve Loclie

  • Understand which features are useful
  • Fix bugs and issues
  • Improve search accuracy
  • Guide future development

What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell your data to third parties
  • We do not share your email with marketers
  • We do not track your activity outside Loclie
  • We do not use your data for targeted advertising

Your Favorites Are Private

By default:

  • All saved places and favorites are private
  • Only you can see your favorites
  • Not visible to other users
  • Not shown on any public profile

Location Information

How Location Works

Home Town:

  • You set this in your profile
  • Used for local recommendations
  • You choose which town to display

Device Location (optional):

  • Browser may request location permission
  • Used for "Near Me" features to detect your nearest town
  • You can deny this in your browser settings
  • The app works without location access - just select a town manually

Managing Browser Location

To disable location:

  1. Open your browser settings
  2. Find Privacy or Site Settings
  3. Locate Loclie's permissions
  4. Set Location to "Block" or "Deny"

Data Security

How We Protect Your Data

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Secure authentication via Clerk
  • Database security via Supabase with Row Level Security (RLS)
  • Regular security reviews
  • Limited access to personal data

Password Security

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Consider using a password manager
  • Change your password if you suspect it is compromised
  • See Password Reset if needed

Loclie uses a cookie consent system that lets you control which cookies are active:

  • Essential (required) - Necessary for the site to function
  • Analytics - Help us understand how the site is used
  • Marketing - Used for relevant content (if applicable)

Privacy Tips

DO:

Use a pseudonym

  • Your name does not have to be your real name
  • Choose something you are comfortable with publicly

Review your profile

  • Only add information you want to share
  • Your email is never shown publicly

Manage browser permissions

  • Review what Loclie can access
  • Deny location if you prefer

Review your cookie preferences

  • Use the Manage Cookie Preferences button on your profile page
  • Only enable the categories you are comfortable with

DON'T:

Don't share passwords

  • Keep your login credentials private
  • Use unique passwords for different sites

Don't add sensitive info

  • Don't include personal details in public posts or club messages
  • Keep private information private

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my email address visible to others?

No. Your email address is never displayed publicly. It is only used for:

  • Signing in
  • Account recovery
  • Important account notifications

Can others see my saved places?

No. All saved places and favorites are private to you. No one else can see what you have saved.


Does Loclie track my location?

Only if you allow it. Location access is optional and controlled by your browser. You can deny location permission and still use all core features by selecting a town manually.


How do I delete my data?

See Delete Account for instructions on permanently deleting your account and all associated data.
