Groups on Loclie are informal community groups where locals connect around shared interests:
- Hobby groups - Book clubs, craft groups
- Community groups - Parents groups, neighbourhood connections
- Interest groups - Gardening, photography, music
- Professional networks - Business networking, industry groups
- Social groups - Dog owners, retirees, new parents
Groups vs Clubs
Groups are informal, community-driven gatherings without a physical venue. If you're looking for organised, venue-based entities like RSLs, bowling clubs, or surf clubs, see Clubs instead.

Finding Groups
Accessing the Groups Page
Desktop:
- Use the bottom arc navigation: Discover > Groups
- Or go directly to app.loclie.com.au/groups
Mobile:
- Tap Discover in the bottom navigation
- Tap Groups in the submenu
Browsing Groups
The groups page features:
- Search bar - Search groups by name
- Scrollable category filter - Horizontal row of category pills
- Sort dropdown - Sort by Most Active, Most Members, or Alphabetical
- Results count - Total groups found
- Area-wide toggle and hometown toggle (when applicable)
Area-Wide Viewing
See groups from your entire Local Government Area:
If your town belongs to a Local Government Area, you can toggle between:
- Town View - See groups from your selected town only (shows town name with MapPin icon)
- Local View - See groups from all towns in your Local Government Area (shows "Local" with Globe icon)
How to toggle:
- Look for the pill-style toggle in the top-right of the Groups page header
- Tap the town name button or the Local button to switch views
- Groups from other towns show a badge indicating their location

Each group listing shows:
- Group name - The group's name
- Description - What the group is about
- Member count - How many people have joined
- Category - Type of group
- Recent activity - Posts and updates

Joining a Group
Requirements
- A Loclie account (create one free)
- Be logged in
How to Join
- Find a group you're interested in
- Click on the group to view its page
- Review the description and posts
- Click "Join Group" button
- You're a member!
Membership Types
Open groups:
- Join instantly
- No approval needed
- Start participating immediately
Approval-required groups:
- Request to join
- Group moderator reviews
- You'll be notified when approved

- See all group posts in your feed

Managing Your Group Memberships
Viewing Your Groups
- Go to your Profile
- Find the "Groups I've Joined" section
- See all groups you're a member of
Each Membership Shows
- Group name and thumbnail
- Your role (Member, Moderator, Owner)
- Quick link to the group
Leaving a Group
- Go to your Profile
- Find the group in "Groups I've Joined"
- Click the menu or "Leave Group" option
- Confirm your decision
- You're removed from the group
Note: Group owners cannot leave - they must transfer ownership first.

How many groups can I join?
There's no limit. Join as many groups as interest you!

What if a group is inactive?
Some groups may be less active than others. You can leave inactive groups anytime.
Can I be removed from a group?
Group owners/moderators can remove members who violate guidelines.
