For Business Owners
Claim by QR Card
If you received a printed Loclie card in the post with a QR code on it, this page explains what it is and how to use it.
Time to complete: 2 minutes
What Is a Claim-by-QR Card?
Loclie sometimes mails printed cards to local business addresses we already have on file. Each card carries a unique QR code that links you directly to a short page listing the Loclie business listings at your address. From there you can take ownership of your listing in one tap.
Why we send these cards:
- Loclie's directory already has roughly 1,800 Australian towns covered
- Most of those businesses don't know they're listed yet
- The printed card is a simple way to let the owner take control of the listing — fix the hours, add photos, post promotions — without needing to know Loclie exists in advance
Step-by-Step: Recipient Flow
Step 1: Scan the QR Code
Open your phone's camera and point it at the QR code on the card. Most modern phones recognise the code instantly and offer a tap-to-open link. No special app needed.
The link looks like this:
https://app.loclie.com.au/claim?token=abc123…
Step 2: Find Your Business
The page that opens shows the address the card was mailed to and a list of Loclie business listings we found at or near that address. Each entry shows the business name, address, and roughly how far it is from the card's target address.
Tap the entry that matches your business.
None of these are mine?
If none of the listings are yours, tap "Add a new business" at the bottom of the page. This takes you to the standard add-business flow where you can create your listing from scratch. The card's token won't be used.
Step 3: Sign In or Create an Account
Loclie needs an account to associate the claim with. If you're already signed in, this step is automatic. Otherwise you'll be prompted to sign in or create a free account first.
Step 4: Confirm the Claim
You'll arrive on the business page with a green "Verified by post — Claim this listing" banner. Tap it and you'll be taken to the manage portal's confirmation screen, where you'll see the email address the claim is linked to. Tap "Yes, this is my business" to submit.
Loclie reviews each claim within 1–2 business days. The card token is retired immediately on submission, so the same card can't be used twice. Once approved, you can:
- Edit business name, description, hours, and photos
- Add your phone, website, and social links
- Create promotional campaigns
- View analytics on who's discovering your listing
How It's Different From a Regular Claim
| Regular Claim | Claim by QR Card | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry point | Search for your business in the Add Business flow | Scan the QR on the mailed card |
| Verification signal | You provide proof in the claim form | Receipt of the physical card at the address is itself the proof |
| Review | Admin review, usually 1–2 business days | Admin review, usually 1–2 business days (faster in practice because the card pre-verifies the address) |
| Best for | Anyone who finds their business via Loclie search | Recipients of a Loclie mailed card |
Both methods give you the same level of control over your listing once approved. The QR-card flow is smoother for the recipient because the physical-card delivery does most of the verification work up front.
See Claiming Your Business for the standard flow.
Card Lifecycle
What Happens After a Card Is Mailed
| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Mailed | The card has been printed and sent. Loclie tracks the address but not the recipient. |
| Scanned | Someone scanned the QR for the first time. The card is now "live" — the timestamp is recorded so we can measure how many cards convert. |
| Used | A business has been claimed using this card's token. The token is permanently retired. |
| Expired | The card's expiry date has passed (typically 90 days from mailing). Scanning returns a "card expired" message with an option to email us for a replacement. |
What If My Card Has Expired?
Email team@loclie.com.au with your business name and address. We'll send you a fresh card or help you claim through the standard flow.
What If Someone Else Already Claimed the Business?
If the card has already been used to claim a listing, you'll see a "This card has already been used" page with a link to view the claimed listing. If you believe the wrong person claimed it, contact support — we can investigate and reassign ownership where appropriate.
Privacy and Security
The token IS the access control. Each printed card carries a long random token that's effectively a single-use credential. Anyone who scans the card can land on the resolve page; the actual claim still requires a Loclie account.
What we record:
- The first time the card is scanned (for our delivery analytics)
- Which business was eventually claimed (so we can retire the card)
What we don't record:
- Your name, phone, or location at time of scan (we only know the card's mailed-to address)
- Information about visitors who scan but don't claim

Printing the Cards
After generating, the campaign detail page has a Print Sheet button. This opens an A4-formatted print page with 8 cards per sheet, each showing:
- The Loclie logo
- The target address
- A QR code linking to
/claim?token=... - Short "Take control of your listing" copy
Print on regular card stock and post.
Tracking Campaign Performance
The Claim Campaigns admin dashboard shows three numbers per campaign:
- Total — How many cards were mailed
- Scanned — How many cards had their QR scanned at least once
- Claimed — How many led to a successful business claim
The funnel between Scanned and Claimed is the conversion rate worth optimising — Total → Scanned reflects mail delivery + recipient curiosity, while Scanned → Claimed reflects whether your candidate-matching catchment was tight enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this free for the business owner?
Yes. Loclie covers the printing and mailing cost. There is no charge to claim or maintain your listing.
Can I forward the card to a colleague?
The card is anonymous in the sense that anyone who scans it can claim — there's no name on the front. So yes, forwarding works, as long as the recipient has access to your business listing's contact details to legitimately represent it.
How long is the card valid?
Typically 90 days from the mailing date. The exact expiry is encoded in the token; the resolve page returns an HTTP 410 status when the card is expired.
Can a card claim multiple businesses?
No. Each token is single-use. Once a business has been claimed using the card, the token is retired and any subsequent scans show a "card already used" message.
What if my business isn't in the nearby list?
The resolve page only shows businesses within ~300 metres of the card's target address (or in the same town if we only had a town-level location). If your listing is at a different address, use the "Add a new business" link at the bottom of the page to create your listing manually.
